My TVB 41st Anniversary Award Ceremony Overview & Critique

It was an overall good show. It would have been better if it wasn't all awards. A short singing performance or something along that line would have been nice. When I saw just the Winner's list I thought there wasn't surprises but there was quite a few.

Myolie Wu Winning Most Fashionable: She went in a Tuxedo. From a distance she did actually look like a man. I think she was inspired by Heidi Klum who wore a Tuxedo during the Emmy's. Myolie's Fashion is only fairly good in my book. I thought there other worthy winners.

Surprise! Francis Ng was at the show!! He's like the Biggest TVB Hater! Just this year he came on the radio with Sandra Ng and trashed TVB. He said their quality has gone down and the newcomers can't act. I was shocked to see him, I dont why, probably as as apology for what happened. He still acted like a doucebag on stage in my opinion. Athena Chu, still so pretty. She played Wong Yung in Legend of the Condor Hero 1996 & Michelle Yim played Wong Yung in Legend of the Condor Hero 1976. It was pretty interesting to see them both in the same room.

Wong Cho Lam Wins Most Improved: There were plenty of other nominees that were deserving of this award like Johnson Lee, and Derek Kwok. I think he is a good actor but his win was somewhat of an upset in my opinion. Plus, he wasn't very humble. His whole reading his acceptance really fast was just trying way too hard. He was trying to be like Kenneth Ma two years ago who was hilarious. It wasn't that funny and only a few people in the crowd thought it was funny. It was almost like "HaHa, Yay, I win, This Is Stupid So Lets Try To This Funny Skit..."

Nancy Wu Wins Most Improved:
Well deserved win. She cried and showed how thankful she was to win and showed respect to the other nominees unlike Wong Cho Lam.

Tavia Yeung wins Best Supporting Actress: I thought it was pretty cool that Best Supporting of HK Cinema Anthony Wong presented Tavia with the Best Supporting Actress Award. She truly deserved it. Her acknowledgement of Lee Heung Kam was also very sweet.

Wayne Lai wins Best Supporting Actor: Best Supporting Actress of HK Cinema Karena Lam presented him with this award. He got a huge crowd reaction. He really deserves it.

Raymond Lam winning the TVB.COM & Favorite Male Character Award:
He looked the least happy out of all the winners. A Best Actor should know how to look happy even though his chances of winning are getting slimmer. The disappointment in his eyes made it seem like he was unappreciative. They should have gave one of his award to someone else who would have appreciate it.

Havent seen Dicky Cheung in forver. His presentation speech was a little weird to me though...

Lee Sze Kei Winning Favorite Female Character:
No big surprise, I think everyone expected her to win.

Moonlight Resonance Win Best Drama:
An Entourage of Stars floods the stage like last year with HOG. Once again, no big surprise.

Michelle Wins Best Actress: I knew she was going to win. A well deserved win & a touching acceptance speech.

The BIGGEST SURPRISE of the Night was the TOP 5. After all the interviewing Carol Cheng did. It was clear the Award was between Lee Sze Kei, Michelle Yim, Susanna Kwan, and Liza Wang based on the other actresses opinion. It was shocking when the Top 5 was announced to be Michelle Yim, Lee Sze Kei, Liza Wang, Sonjia Kwok, and Linda Chung. HOLY CRAP! They didn't show Susanna Kwan's face but it must have been like "WTF?". I was so Happy for Sonjia Kwok, she was shocked herself and was just so happy to be in the Top 5. That's humble!

Ha Yu Wins Best Actor: Lee Sze Kei presented the Award. I thought she was rude & kind of out of line. After the announcement of the Top 5 she started talking about the award and who might win, her Lau Kung (Husband) and her two Jai (Sons). She completely excluded Roger Kwok and Kevin Cheng out of the picture like they're chop liver in her opinion. Even if their chances are low because of the popularity of MR, a good presenter would treat all nominees with the same respect.

Ha Yu took home the Award which he was very deserving of. He said he waited 40 years for this day and pulled out as inspirational speech from MR by Sa Yi. The crowd was very happy for him.

Congratulations to Paul Chun for Winning The Life Time Achievement Award!!

The biggest surprise for me was how inconsiderate Lee See Kei was to Roger & Kevin. Even though she's the Best Actress last year she's in no place to judge for Roger or Kevin. They were very good in LOS.

Totally agree with you on Lee See Kei. She was so rude to Roger and Kevin. I thought she was rude to Ha Yu too. She forgot to hand the award to him and then she interrupted him during his acceptance speech. I expected better from her.

I think Moses Chan felt awkward when LSK did that because he glanced over to Kevin & then Roger hoping they didn't take offense. Roger had a grin on his face. I felt so bad for them.

She should never be allow to present an award again.

Totally disagree with you on wong cho lam. he really deserved the award. Johnson and Derek were great, but speaking of 'improvement', cho lam was better as he hosted the miss hk, super trio, in stage drama, publish CD, write lyrics, etc... All these in a single year, what a improvement this is....

Actually the audience respond to his thank you note were great, you can see all the crowd were laughing, unlike your comment. and if you check the apple news several days ago, 70% of TVB artistes voted for him on the most improved award.

Frankly, I don't recall what kenneth ma said 2 years ago, and i don't think wong cho lam was trying to be like him, he was just trying to thank all ppl that he needed to thank. If you think he is not humble, i think you were just biased. Especially at the end he thank his dad who passed away already, i don't think he was doing the thank you note with the "HaHa, Yay, I win, This Is Stupid So Lets Try To This Funny Skit..." attitude at all. I can see he was holding the tears in his eyes.

I agree with her more on this one. Wong Cho Lam didn't look like he was going to cry at all. He acted so comical once he heard he won. His speed talking was not that amusing. I only saw a few laughs.

Yea i dont even remember what Kenneth Ma said 2 years ago.

But actually, BAK BIU, one of the presenters for Best Actress IS NOT michelle yim's boyfriend. The two of them starred in a series before in like 1976 or something like they said. I thought that segment was funny with them saying how the 'old actresses' should win. Adam Cheng was there for Louise Lee, Lai Siu Teen was there for Susanna or Nancy Sit and Bak Biu was Michelle Yim.

i don't remember the actually screen of wong cho lam accepting the award, but i and my family did laugh a lot when he said his speech.

do you think that the only way to accept the award was 'crying' so that you can show your humbleness? i did not see him crying or about to cry, but i did not think he was arrogant either.

Blogger Asia Choi said ... (6:54 PM) :

Lily, I thought that was her boyfriend because I read it in the news lol.

I'm just going to respond to the Wong Cho Lam thing. It's just my opinion. I didn't find it funny. And no, I dont think the only way to be humble is to cry which he didn't or about to like you said. I thought Sonjia is humble and she didnt cry or win an award. It's about how that person acts or carry themself. I didn't say he was arrogant, I just thought he should acted more properly in the presence of the other nominees who just lost to him.

I have never seen a series of Wong Cho Lam so no comment on his winning, but I disagree about Derek Kwok winning this award - it would almost be a humiliation! I think it's humiliating that he's even nominated...considering he has been acting for so long and is like a veteran already. I remember Raymond saying he learned from him filming LWOLAP. It's kinda the same with Johnson...I think they're better suited for the Best Supporting category.

As for his acceptance speech, yeah I agree he should be more considerate but I also feel it's unique and cool in that he's really himself. From what I have seen of him, I think that's his true character. He was just trying to be funny and in turn being himself.
I don think he was in any way copying Kenneth though - Kenneth was naturally shocked and over happy and extremely appreciative; you could see him shaking a bit. So while Wong Cho Lam TRIED to be halirious (and succeeded IMO), Kenneth wasnt.

But VERY HAPPY Michelle won. Also shocked that Linda made the top 5 and not Susanna or Charmaine - both in higher rated series and created more talk.

I think Derek Kwok is an amazing actor. So versatile. I thought he should have won. However, I didnt mind Wong Cho Lam winning. I too did not find speech very funny. I didn't see the humor behind what he did.

I am really glad that Wayne Lai won Best Supporting Actor! Real happy for him as I love his acting for a really long time. I have been supporting him for a long long time and finally he got what he deserved for a long time!!!

For Wong Cho Lam, to me he was just too nervous and excited. I also did not find the acceptance very funny (well, a little bit funny, but not really that funny), but I am amused that he could speak so fast yet so clear. However, my younger brother and sister were laughing real hard.

And I find this video an interesting comparison:

I have to say the same for Si Kei Jie but I felt that she was really clumsy yesterday. Like when Dodo asked who she would give the Best Actress award to if she didn't win, she didn't even realise what she was saying until halfway through.

In her acceptance speech, she said she didn't even want to win anything and she felt pretty much lifeless there.

So when it comes to her giving out the award for Best Actor, I reckon she was so caught up in her own mind that she forgot about Roger and Kevin but I guess she didn't mean to offend because clearly she doesn't seem like that kind of person. I believe she even voted on Roger being Best Actor this year.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:45 AM) :

Oh yeah! One more thing! Si Kei Jie also forgot to give the award to Ha Yu. She was clearly in a place of her own.

can't wait for your best dress and worst dress entry. U R gonna do one right. :D

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:51 PM) :

I agree with you, girl! To me, Kevin and Roger were a lot better than her two "Sons". What an arrogant old hag. I loved her character in MR but not so much her. LOVEEEEE Kevin and Roger xxoo

i notice that when the present for The Life Time Achievement Award was speaking, many guys in the back was joking around...
